It was bittersweet to leave the Himalayas. After 2 months in Nepal we had fallen in love with those mountians. But, imagine our surpise when we fell in love with a big, modern city. Move over Himalayas, Malaysia is amazing too.
We knew we were in for a big change when we booked our flights to Kuala Lumpur. But, we didn’t know we’d fall in love. Hard. It wasn’t so hard to trade the prayer flags of Nepal for the paper lanters of Southeast Asia.
In transition:
It felt great to blend into a truly diverse city. We didn’t stand out as tourists, white people, Americans or anything really. We were treated like everyone else. A new feeling, yes, and one that made us feel really relaxed and welcomed. We were grateful to let our hair down a bit.
Here’s visual KL for you:
And, just outside the city is this awesomeness. It goes by the name Batu Cave. ALMOST the Batcave.
We were pretty impressed by the Batu Caves. Bonus? They were free to visit. Just one more photo.
Natural wonders within city bounds is a huge perk. KL – you just don’t stop impressing us. Now, back to town.
In the middle of the city, the free orchid sanctuary did NOT suck.
On top of the amazing melting pot of culture, the tons of green open space, natural caves and amazing food, there was also next to no air pollution in KL. Maybe it was just being in Kathmandu for so long that made the air in KL seem so fresh. But either way, we took advantage and went for a run! Ah, the first outside jog of the trip.
I have a soft spot for the concrete jungles of the world. Kuala Lumpur is a unique one. We recommend you give it a try if you ever get a chance.
Love it! I wish you guys put more words, balance with the pictures, too! 😀 Nonetheless, nice one!
Thanks for the thoughts, Anita! We will try to keep a better balance in the future. Glad you’re enjoying the posts!
