Cameron Highlands was always on my list for this trip. The other-worldly endless green hills of tea plantations are the obvious draw. But, the people, food, farms and hiking complete the call to make it a can’t-miss stop in Malaysia.
Hitchhiking here was easier and more common that catching a ride back up Berthod Pass after a backcountry ski run. Everyone was super friendly, willing, and excited to chat with you even if they struggled with their English.
A 10 minute ride brought us to the next town. We went out of the main touristy area to find a more secluded hiking area, and we succeeded. After passing the “trail head” more than once we finally started out on the hike into the jungle.
After 2 hours of basically hiking straight uphill, we strolled through the “mossy forest” and snacked. An excellent combo, if I do say so myself.
On our way down the other side of the mountain, we stopped in at a strawberry farm for some fresh strawberry juice. Oh, and a forced photo session by the owner. He was cheesily clever.
We continued down the path to reach the BOH tea plantations. Truly a sight of vivid green with rigid square patterns laid down across rolling hills. The look it creates is a visual treat.
The plantation housed a suprisingly modern tasting room, and stunning views. A perfect place to relax.
Its a one of a kind place. It only takes 1 day to enjoy basically the whole thing. Effecient, beautiful, AND delicious. What more could you ask for?
